Hello again... I've got a few more pictures for you. We're coming to completion on our rock terracing project. Bill and I are both so pleased with the results. We can imagine all the grass grown back and the terraces dotted with ferns and spots of colorful impatients. We'll add some palms, jatrophas and other wonderful small trees as well.
Down in our "Sacred Valley" we just transplanted 5 mangosteens from Na Aina Kai Gardens. They were already producing fruit - quite a wonderful thing as they usually take up to 15 years to start producing. Mangosteens are quite the health rage these days with all their anti-carcenigenic qualities and they are quite yummy. Hopefully they will all be happy in our moist valley.
Bill just havested our cacao (chocolate) pods and a friend is processing them. Pretty amazing!

Just wanted you to see the view I wake up to from my little place. Very difficult to wake up in a bad mood! It is SO AMAZING. I never take the beauty for granted. Every day both Bill and are are knocked off our feet at least once!

Bill is having our helpers put in level stairways and pathways all over the creek and sacred valleys. It makes it so easy to navigate the hillsides now. I find myself going down to the valleys more often now.

We have some really healthy chocolate trees. Our friend Paddy Kean made our first batch of chocolate this year. So good! Isn't that amazing???? Our valley is the perfect place for them. I think Bill wants to plant several more.

This spring when we returned from Stew's 90th birthday party in CA, I built myself my own room. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! Actually, Bill loves it as well. We both find time to take naps, meditate or sleep out there often. So nice to have a small space with no "stuff" in it. No electricity and plenty of airflow. The birdsong is a sweet lullaby.

We plopped two large perfectly shaped rocks on top that are great for sitting on, relaxing and gazing over the valley and ocean. Pretty nice!

We'd been having rain for at least 6 weeks when I caught this misty/gray cloud with the mountain and waterfalls. I never tire of gazing at our beautiful mountains.

I met a 93 year old Japanese man who was selling off his orchid collection. I was able to get over a hundred of them at a very good price. I have been placing them on our palm trees, monkeypods and royal poincianas. So fun!
Rock Terrace Project 2
The following pictures have been taken over the last 3 weeks. This is the very start of the terracing project. We started by putting in a silt fence and excavating a large holding pond at the bottom of the "bowl". As you can see - we are moving right along. Bill and I both have a passion for rocks - you might think we are going a bit overboard!! The walls already have an ancient feel to them and they don't even have the ferns or impatients growing in the cracks. Looking at certain areas, it almost looks like you are in Ireland. We are hitting a bit of rainy weather right now but we hope to be done with the project in a couple weeks. It's been incredible to watch it all come together. 2/4/09
